Sam Darnold Traded to the Panthers
The New York Jets have officially moved on from quarterback Sam Darnold. The 2018 3rd overall pick was traded to the Carolina Panthers for a 6th rd pick in 2021, a 2nd, and 4th rd pick in 2022.
This trade pretty much guarantees the Jets at #2 overall in this years draft will take a quarterback. Zach Wilson out of BYU is the most likely candidate.
The Panthers meanwhile sit at #8 overall and figured it wouldn't be in play to take one of the top tier quarterbacks in draft.
They tried trading Teddy Bridgewater for Matthew Stafford, but the Rams offered a better deal.
The Panthers can pick up the 5th yr option for Sam Darnold this year. Will they?
I think you have to after making this trade. It's a no brainer and it secures him under contract if he has a breakout year.
Can Sam Darnold resurrect his career in Carolina? He certainly is under a better coaching staff in 2nd year coach Matt Rhule and offensive coordinator Joe Brady. This is the chance for him to prove that New York was just the wrong the place.
